It was so busy around Christmas time that I almost forgot to document Jack's 5th month (and here we are… already close to 6 months!). I did however remember to update the baby book on time. Jack didn't have a Dr's appointment this month (except for a shot or two) so I don't have official weight and height. However, when we were back in Indiana over Christmas, we weighed Jack on the baby scales at my mom and dad's house. He weighed in at a whopping 18 ½ lbs as of Dec. 25. Around Christmas time Jack was wearing all 12 month clothes and filling those out nicely!
It seemed like every day this last month Jack was doing something new! It was absolutely amazing. He is giggling so much more and "engages" Jess and I in conversation by making a grunt or two when he's ready to talk or play. He is ticklish on his sides, under his armpits and especially loves when Jess and I blow or kiss his neck on either side. He is very photogenic, but only smiles consistently for me when having his picture taken. Bummer because I like to be in the pictures too and he usually won't smile in those! He also likes other kids and Graham (who is like a kid!) When we were home over Christmas, Kylie and Kennedy and Graham could always make Jack laugh – even just by smiling at him.
His favorite toys this month are his boy baby (yes, you heard me – my child has a baby). It's a Precious Moments baby that says the "Now I lay me down to sleep…." prayer. Keith & Erica gave it to him for his baptism. He loves to chew on his head and when the baby speaks, Jack speaks back to it. It's too funny! He loves anything he can chew on, but doesn't like cold teethers. Still loves his car seat toys that dangle from the bar overhead. Some of his favorite toys from Christmas are his book that lights up and talks, his turtle that sings the numbers, and his elephant/jungle train that rolls across the floor… pretty much anything that lights up or plays music. We are also enjoying all of our books before bedtime. Despite all these toys, most of the time he just likes to be unrestricted and in his diaper on the floor kicking and rolling around.
Speaking of rolling…. He is good at rolling from back to tummy – but not tummy to back yet. He also took a special interest in his toes this month. He has managed to pull them to his mouth and likes chewing on those stinky things (Mandy is probably cringing right now!:) He also likes studying faces – putting his hands on my face and just looking at my eyes and nose. When he studies Jess's face, he pulls his glasses off.
We started the "sleep in your own room/bed" campaign as of the New Year and Jack was just waking up once during the night to eat. So that's progress. He also started eating cereal this 5th month. We tried a week of just rice cereal and have since added bananas and applesauce to the mix. He eats it morning and night. Starting in a few weeks we will probably add a vegetable at noon. Well it won't be long before I give another update on his 6th month!

Time flies by doesn't it? Thanks for sharing all of Jack's accomplishments. I like how detailed you were. Jack will love to know those kinds of things when he gets older I'm sure. I would:)
