"What a BIG BOY" is all that the nurse had to say as Jackson weighed in for his 6-week checkup (it's really supposed to be his 1-mo checkup, but it ended up being more like 1 1/2 mo). Jack weighed in at 13 lbs 8 oz and he is now 24 1/2 inches long! Keep in mind, just 6 weeks ago the little guy weighed 9 lb 3 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long.
This Dr's visit wasn't any different from the last - Jack cried almost the entire time. I think it's the initial reaction of having to get completely undressed (diaper and all) to have his weigh-in and have the Dr look him over. As if a screaming baby isn't enough - Jack tends to get so mad that he poops. Needless to say, each time we have been to the Dr, Jack squirts a little on the exam table - he gives new meaning to the phrase "that little stinker".
The Dr said that everything else looked really good. I took a list of questions that are probably typical 1st-mom questions - how long should he wait between feedings, what is a normal sleep pattern at this age, how much spitup is normal, etc. If any of you reading this have any input on how your babies were at this stage - it would be helpful. Jack is doing great, but it's always nice to have others to talk to/compare to get a sense of normalcy.
After the exam, Jack calmed down long enough for Jess to talk to the Dr about Jack's vaccination schedule. Jess has done a lot of research on infant/child vaccines and we have set up a schedule for Jack to receive all his vaccinations over the course of a year or so. It's hard for me to imagine anyone hurting my little guy, let alone me watching. I know he won't remember the shots, but I think it will still break my heart. I'll leave you with a few recent pictures of our little man.
Jack bundled up for a walk on a brisk day!
We are making the move to size 2 diapers!

WOAH! he's a big boy.. mommy must be feeding him well! :) you're a good mommy tara- that is why you're worrying and wondering. what helped me the most is a book called "your baby's first year, week by week" it always had great things and developmental games to play to help your child grow to be happy and healthy. id pass mine to you if you're gonna be home soon? otw just love on him, you WILL know if something is "wrong" or "not right". keep up the good work!
Tara,
Before long little jack (or not so little Jack) is going to catch up with Meredith. She was 8 months this week and weighed yesterday at the Dr. office at 15lbs 10oz and almost 28in. Good to hear he is taking the bottle so well now.
